Splitscreen

«Splitscreen» (2023/2024) stages a fascinating interplay between technology and the body. The piece opens with Ullmann›s hands positioning screens of varying sizes within the frame. Fingers appear in the smallest, pressing from inside out until it breaks; elbows, knees, feet, and head follow in other screens, splintering their surfaces. Positioned between LCD surface and light source, the body parts appear as abstract silhouettes in a shadow theater. Binaural recording captures the shattering, crunching, and cracking alongside the artist›s breathing. As liquid crystals melt and morph, graphic-like drawings evolve dynamically. A touchscreen gesture then expands the central video across all screens—a theatrical scene change dissolving individual frames into a unified image surface. This multilayered engagement with fragmentation challenges habitual perceptions and entangles us in constant re-examination.
