“Screensaver” (2019) presents posters of picturesque landscapes from regions around the globe, changing at one-minute intervals. Paradisiacal beaches, deserts, foggy forests, wild mountains, and stormy seas evoke the sublime aesthetics of Romantic painting while recalling familiar desktop backgrounds. The slides are changed manually, with the artist’s hands simulating the transition effects normally employed by screensavers and digital slideshows. The work bridges analog and digital modes of presentation, questioning our relationship to idealized natural imagery in the age of screens.
